Jalex returned home to the
Gambia today, after a month of cold grey UK weather! Unfortunately, the
producers at OBE didn't call us back in time for the planned interview with
Jalex, and the interview on DNA was scuppered by some Zambians who then didn't
turn up to the studio. Edu assures us he will fit us in "Next time"!!

Once again, Nyamato, as
played on this page, was played by DJ Edu on his DNA: Destination Africa show
on BBC 1Xtra, together with a great plug for the show at Dalston and the album,
Soma Alfaa. Again, we can't thank Our Boy Edu for his support. Top, top man,
Edu!!!!

Jalex dropped in at the BIg
Chill House, in Kings Cross, London, for a couple of tacks, again, singing
LIVE, with the fantastic DJ Eric Soul at the decks. Eric is a legend on the
London Afro Music scene, and is at the forefront of the boom in Afro Music in
the capital. Jalex performed Kuta Labana and Soma Alfaa to a small but
appreciative crowd - again going down a storm! Look out for a video either on
the website or Youtube soon! Jalex also met up with Du G, a rap star from
Senegal.

will be performing alongside Eric again in the future.
17 February
2008
Last night Jalex performed
at Visions Nightclub in Dalston, London, UK, as the main act at the Official UK
Gambian Indpendence Day Celebration. A packed audience enjoyed Jalex's
performance of Afrika Kairo, Kana Kideh, Kuta Labana, Duniyaa, Bilem Sining and
Nmala Moola Bi, in typical "Akuntu" style! Jalex peformed LIVE vocals
to a backing CD of instrumentals, and in spite of a less-than-perfect sound
quality, the crowd loved it! It was great tp see so many people there - thank
you all for coming and we hoped you enjoyed it. Thanks also to Njok Malik
(Yaram Arts), Lye Cham, DJ Hassim (Happy Birthday!) , Gambian United Society,
and everyone else who helped organise the night and make it such a
success. We look forward to the next performance in the UK.
14 February

It's been a busy 3 weeks for
Jalex in the UK. He has around London and beyond, travelling to Brighton
and as far as Pembrokeshire in West Wales, seeing the sights in the UK. From
the sunny climbs of the Gambia, he is now experiencing the thrill of a British
winter, with temperatures as low as MINUS 1 degrees centigrade! You will notice
he has a wooly hat and gloves on in most of the pictures!
For pictures, click HERE
As far as music goes, he is
ready to lead the London Gambian Independence Day Celebrations on Saturday 16th
at Visions Nightclub in Dalston, London, alongside Assan Ndiaye from Senegal.
He has filmed a Valentines Day message for OBE TV in the UK, which will be
shown tonight, and we have been offered a half hour show about Jalex, also on
OBE TV, which will include a studio interview, along with footage from the show
in Dalston on the 16th, which is being specially filmed for that purpose. This
is major exposure for Jalex in the UK, and we are very pleased that this is
happening now.
INFORMATION
REGARDING JALEX'S RETURN TO THE GAMBIA

their return by their fans! It would be great to see you all at the airport to
welcome Jalex home, after he has represented The Gambia in concert and on TV
here in the UK. If you can make it, please go along and welcome him back -

post them on this site.

Once again,
Jalex's track Nyamato was played on BBC 1Xtra on Wednesday night, and again, it
was the closing track of the show! Once again, a big shout out to our boy DJ
Edu for the support. You can listen to the show at www.bbc.co.uk/1xtra/djedu/, and
select the player to listen to the latest show. Jalex is on about 4 minutes
before the end of the show, but if you have a spare couple of hours, why not
listen to the whole show!? Jalex even got a "Big Up" from Edu! This
is important not only for Jalex, and his music, but for the Gambia as a whole.
There is so much good music going on right now in Gambia, and such a rich
cultural heritage to tap into, and it's good that the sounds of the Gambia are
getting some airplay on such a prestigious station as BBC 1Xtra. We're hoping
it continues!
It was also nice
that this week, because the track was played for longer, the Rap by the late MJ
was heard too...he may be gone, but he is definitely not forgotten, and we
dedicate this airplay to you, MJ........
SOMA
ALFAA - Buy it NOW in London!
We are pleased
to be able to announce that the debut album fom Jalex, "Soma Alfaa",

HAPPY NEW
YEAR!!!
......And what a great start to 2008 for Jalex. Just before 2am on Wednesday
3rd January, Jalex's new song Nyamato (playing in the background on this page),
closed the show for DJ Edu on the BBC 1Xtra channel in the UK. The show - DNA:
Destination Africa is the premier African Music show on UK Radio, featuring the
best of African music from all over Africa, from African musicians in the UK,
and the Diaspora at large. DJ Edu introduced the song as a track "...from
the biggest artist in the Gambia....Jalex". Unfortunately cut short
about half way through, due to the timing of the show, nonetheless this is a
major milestone in Jalex's career - we believe this is the first play of
Jalex's music in the UK on mainstream radio, and certainly on such a
prestigious station as BBC 1Xtra, the Home of Black Music in the UK. Nyamato is
currently exclusive to DJ Edu in the UK - in fact he has been provided with all
Jalex's music to date, and so we are hoping that this will be just the start of
Jalex's airplay in the UK.
DJ Edu - BBC 1Xtra - DNA: Destination Africa
We at
Jalexonline, and indeed Jalex himself, would like to say a massive "Thank
You", and "Big Up" to DJ Edu for giving Jalex this opportunity.
The show is the best in the UK for the latest African sounds, and is doing a
great job of showcasing the undoubted musical talents of artists from all over
Africa, introducing then to the UK listeners and indeed those further afield,
all over the world. The BBC 1Xtra channel is a Digital channel in the UK,
available through the latest DAB Digital radios, through digital satellite and
cable TV, and indeed via the internet. It is broadcast live, every Wednesday
night from Midnight until 2am (GMT) (Thursday morning). For those who would
like to listen in via the web, you can do so by logging on to www.bbc.co.uk/1xtra, where you will see
an option to listen in live. DJ Edu's homepage can be found at www.bbc.co.uk/1xtra/djedu/. You
can email the studio during the show, and even look into the studio via web
cams!
If you visit the
site before next Wednesday, you can also listen back to the show that featured
Jalex, using the BBC iPlayer facility. Jalex features only in the last 30
seconds of this "recording", but you can fast forward the player
using the controls.
Jalex was able
to listen in "Live" when the track started, when Gary, his manager,
phoned him from the UK.
Once again, we
would say a massive Thank You to DJ Edu for this opportunity - of all the DJ's
in the UK, he was specifically chosen as someone who's support we were seeking,
and he did not disappoint. Top Man! If you would like to email him, you can do
so at djedu@bbc.co.uk, and if you get the
chance, listen in to the show on the internet.

entitled "One to Watch" featured in the December issue of the
Brussels Airlines in flight magazine, is now available for you to view - CLICK HERE

Apologies for
the fact that the music on this page hasn't been working, and that the new
pictures on the Gallery page haven't been visible - very boring, but this was
due to the filenames having spaces in them. It should hopefully be sorted out
now. It is our intention to rotate the music on this page, so that it changes
regularly - so keep checking back!
May we take this
opportunity to wish all our visitors a Happy and Prosperous 2008, wherever you
may be.

NOW VOTE FOR JALEX BY TEXT !!!
Text voting for the Gambian
Talent Awards is now open! To vote for Jalex on your phone, please send the
word JALEX to 7169 on your Africell phone.
The votes already cast on
the website (www.gambiantalents.com) only form part of the final score. Text
votes count for a further portion of the score, together with the marks
allocated by a panel of judges. Jalex is currently doing well in the votes, but
is trailing behind artists ike Singateh aka Freaky Joe and Ooz, who are based
in America. Bear in mind that the website is based in America, and the majority
of comments seem to be from people based in America, the text voting stage is
really where the fans in Gambia will have their say, without having to use the
internet. All you need is your Africell phone!!!
So PLEASE, text the word JALEX to 7169, and ask everyone you know to do the
same. To remind you, Jalex is nominated in the Categories for "Best Male
Artist" and "Afromanding Song of the Year" (for Kana Kideh).
We at Jalexonline would also
like to congratulate Surahata Suso on his nomination in the Afromanding Song of
the Year category, which he is currently winning!!!! Well done Sura!! Even more
of an achievement since he has not released a song yet!!!!!! Gary, Jalex's
Manager has spoken to Sura regularly over the last month, and they have had a
good laugh about this!! We think that he has been nominated for the song
for which there is a video on Onegambia.com "by Jalex and Surahata".
It is indeed a fabulous song, one which all you Jalex fans out there should
know......it's called "Duniyaa" and is actually by.......you guessed
it.....JALEX!!!! Sura is indeed on this track, doing his magnificent thing that
he does on the Kora, and starts in the video too (we actually delayed the
shooting of the video just to Sura could get back from the UK to start in it
alongside Jalex).
So we are also encouraging
Jalex's fans to VOTE FOR SURA as well !! I t will be very interesting at
the awards if he wins......!!!!!!
More
News......
The article
featuring Jalex in the in flight magazine for Brussels Airlines is now out. As
well as being on every Brussels Airlines plane throughout December it is
available to read on their website.

for the magazine, where you can "turn" the pages. Jalex's article is
on page 24 (ish). Look for it on the right hand sid of the left hand page, in a
green box. It can also be viewed on a normal webpage at www.btheremag.com/2007/12/01/in-africa-2.
You will need to scroll down to find it. Both article are entitled "One To

When we receive it, will will copy it and post it up here on our website for
you to read also.
Jalex on BBC
with DJEdu!?
Jalex's album,
Soma Alfaa, his DVD's and his new tracks and promotional material have been
sent to DJ Edu, the premier African DJ on the BBC 1Xtra channel on BBC Radio in
the UK. DJ Edu requested the full material after Jalex's manager, Gary, sent
the track Nyamato by email. We are eagerley anticipating something by Jalex
being played on the show, and we are also hopeful that when Jalex visits the UK
on holiday soon, he will be interviewed for the show, which is called DNA -
Destination Africa. 1Xtra is the biggest and best black music channel on the
radio in the UK, and DJ Edu's show specialises in beats from Africa. To get
Jalex's music played on here will be MASSIVE at this stage, so a special shout
out to DJ Edu for listening the CD.
If you want to
email DJ Edu, to tell him how big Jalex is in Gambia, and to show your support,
you can do so at djedu@bbc.co.uk, Put
JALEX in the subject line!
Nyamato is a hot
new track from Jalex, which will probably be on the next album. For those of
you who don't speak Mandinka, Nyamato mean "Crazy Man".
A summary of the
song would be:
"People call
me crazy man....but I'm not crazy......If sometimes i act crazy, it's because i
am in love with you..."
That's all for this
update...........Akuntu!

Some news regarding the
website....
As well as logging into our
website using www.jalexonline.com, you
can now access our site using the address www.akuntu.com.
This is as a result of the popularity of the shout of "Akuntu!", at
Jalex's shows since the summer. We purchased this name so that those of you
that speak Mandinka can have an address that is relevant to Jalex in your own
language, and also as a tribute to the way "Akuntu!" has captured the
imagination of Jalex fans this year. We hope you will find this of use, and
that it may even bring a smile to your face!!!!
We are in the process of
updating the website, with a slightly new look (see the pictures at the top
right of each page, and also the akuntu.com title). We shall be posting more
pictures like the one above and on the main title page (taken in November in Bakau,
especially for the website). These pictures are generally small in file size,
having been reduced for the website to speed up the page loading. We will more
than likely add a couple of the pictures in a larger file size, so that you can
download them at a decent resolution, and use them for desktop backgrounds, or
to print off and keep.

the Best Male Artist award than Jalex.
JALEX TO
FEATURE IN BRUSSELS AIRLINE IN FLIGHT MAGAZINE!
An article on
Jalex, entitled "One to Watch", is to appear in the December issue of
"Be There" Magazine. This is the In Flight Magazine of Brussels

which will be in every seat on Brussels Airlines aircraft in December, flying

What an amazing night at
Lama Lama!
The Jalex Award Party has
been widely acclaimed as one of the best shows that many people have been to in
a long time!
The show featured DJ Kutla
as the DJ for the evening, along with his crew. Performances by Oumie, Black
Plastic, Fidaws, Cappucino, Pepper House Crew.......and finally, at around
midnight, the time had come for the main event of the evening.......
To a melodious arrangement
of Kora, Drums and Piano, a voice echoed around Lama Lama, and Jalex was here!
"Jalex is YOUR
artist" he proclaimed "Take Me!". The crowd cheered, as Jalex
proceeded to lift the roof with a string of the biggest songs in the Gambia.
Guests tables had to be hastily removed as the crowd inched ever nearer to the
stage, eager to get closer to the man they had all come to see.
Accompanying Jalex on stage,
with his incredible performance, was a crowd favourite, Amomolo. He danced his
heart out all evening, adding a touch of drama to every song with his own style
of dance.
By the end of the night,
when it came to several renditions of Nmala Moola Bi, even the crowd were on
the stage!
This was an incredible night
for all those that were there, and it will live long in the memory of all who
took part.
This show was a "Thank
You" to the fans, for their support of Jalex and his music. The venue was
packed, with a popular comment being that it should have been held somewhere
bigger to allow more fans to take part. The venue was specially selected by
Jalex as it is in his home town of Bakau - this was important to Jalex, that he
celebrated his award in his own town in the first instance. There will of
course be future shows in larger venues, and we hope to see everyone there!

Countries
include Gambia, the UK, USA, Canada, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Spain, Belgium,
and Switzerland, amongst others.
We can also tell
from the web statistics that many users in these countries listen to the music
clips of Duniyaa and Bilem Sining, as well as the full track of Nmala Moola
Bi.
To EVERYONE who

shall be looking to improve it even more for your enjoyment over the next few
months. We may be adding a guestbook, where you can leave messages for Jalex,
but in the meantime, you can of course contact us by emailing manager@jalexonline.com, with any
questions or comments. We promise to reply to each and every one of you
personally, so if you have any questions or comments, email us!
Our videos on

the second most popular video, is a reflection of what a massive hit this song
is. We fully expect it to become the most popular video in the next few weeks!
We are also

It is with sadness and shock
that we must report the sudden death of Pa Modou Jammeh, aka MJ, of Bulldoff records,
who died in hospital on Thursday after a very sudden and short illness.
MJ mixed and mastered
Jalex's debut album, "Soma Alfaa", and more recently, was the
mastermind behind the "Smilin Coast Riddim", which set the Gambian
music industry alight.
MJ started in music in 1993,
as a solo performer, before joining the Pepper House Crew in 1995. In 1998, he
founded Bulldoff Records, and from that moment, had a huge influence on the
Gambian Music scene.
The Smilin Coast Riddim in
March 2007 brought Gambian Music to the fore, with acclaim from both within
Gambia and from many countries across the world.
Amazingly, MJ never had any
formal training in production, learning from his own research, reading and
experimentation.
At the time of his death, it
could be said that MJ was at the top of his game, and his years of hard work
and selfless dedication were now producing the success that he so richly
deserved.
He once said : " Doing music is
what I had loved doing since i was a kid. That's where I found my happiness"
MJ will be sadly and sorely
missed, by the entire Gambian music industry, and by Jalex in particular.
MJ was a close friend, as
well as his music producer. Jalex and everyone at Jalexonline would like to
express our sincerest condolences to MJ's family and friends at this difficult
time.
A shining light has been
extinguished. Rest In Peace MJ.

JALEX WINS AWARD IN THE UK!!!!

It is with immense pleasure, and a
great deal of pride, that we can announce that Jalex has been voted "BEST
NEW ARTIST"
in the UK Senegambia Awards 2007.
At a gala presentation
evening at the Troxy multi million pound venue in London, attended by
dignitaries from the Gambian and Senegalese Government representatives in the
UK, the award (pictured above) was presented to Gary Jones, Jalex's Manager, on
behalf of Jalex.
The evening was organised by
Waka J, one of the premier promoters of Senegambian music in the UK, with music
provided by some top Senegalese and Gambian performers. Music was also provided
by DJ Hassim, who played a number of tracks from Jalex's album, Soma Alfaa.
These tracks got a very favourable reaction, and sounded great in this superb
venue.
Jalex narrowly missed
winning a second award, that of Gambian Artist of the Year, coming second only
to Jaliba Kuyateh.
With the awards ceremony
running late, there was no time for a long speech, but Gary thanked everyone
who has supported Jalex over the last couple of years, and told the large crowd
that even if they had not heard of Jalex yet, they would be hearing a lot more
of him in the future - GUARANTEED!
Speaking after being told by
phone that he had won the award, an excited Jalex proclaimed: "THIS IS MY
YEAR..."
Jalex himself would like to
say a huge thank you to his fans, friends and those professionals that have
supported him in this time. Special thanks go to Jalex's family, MJ (Buldoff
Recordz), Sura Suso (Kora Genius who played on the Soma Alfaa album), West
Coast Radio. Yiriwa FM, KWT Radio, Mediamatic (They make our video clips.
Thanks to Harona Drammeh), Darboe, Kanteh, Shadi Al Jerjawi and all at Africell
, Ansumana Drammeh and all at GRTS, and all those other people - too many to
mention- who support Jalex in what he is doing.....staying true to his roots
and producing fantastic music that is setting the Smiling Coast alight!
Special thanks also must go
to UKgambians.com, who have promoted Jalex on their website, and who managed
the vote for the awards, and to Gambiantalents.com who also feature Jalex on
their website.
But the biggest thank you of
all must go to YOU, the Fans! Without your support, none of this would be
possibe......A special Hello from Jalex to Yusupha Jobarteh, a Gambian living
in the UK, and a new Jalex Fan!

The Observer newspaper
features and article announcing the release of the new CD, Soma Alfaa.
Accompanied by a picture of the CD cover, (a still photo extracted from the
video clip for Kana Kideh,) the article includes the following:
"The
grandson of a popular griot, Jali Foday, this promising star is poised to reach
stardom.
His well crafted
debut album contains lots of interesting songs that will be enjoyed not only by
Gambians. Pierre Coron of Hi-Tech 2000 described Jalex as a young star who has
all the potentials to make an international breakthrough.
Speaking to
What's On, the Bakau based musician said his music is strictly African, but
fused with some western instruments to give a double flavour. He said the
African instruments like the Kora and Balafon are so melodious that every
musician should try and include them in his music.
According to him,
it took him a couple of years to reflect on which type of music he should
specialise on. "I would like to thank one Gary Jones, a British national,
who has always been supporting me to take up singing as my career. He provided
part of the funds to record my debut album" Jalex disclosed."
